What is a Custom Skin?
What is included in a Custom Skin?
CubeCart has done a fabulous job of separating it's content (core files) from it's styling (skin files). This makes it really easy to customize the look of your CubeCart without having to dive into any php coding. In fact you can totally change the look of your skin by simply altering the css stylesheets found within the skin's files. What's included is anything you can imagine as long as what you are needing is possible by altering the skin files. We have created so many custom skins for cubecart we know how to really stretch the limits of what a skin can do!
If you are new to CubeCart, web design, or owning a website; you may be confused as to exactly what this all means. Try switching the skin you are using from your admin area in general settings. You will see that by changing the skin you don't change your products or content, but the look of your store completely changes! The best way to describe a skin is to compare CubeCart to a car. If CubeCart were a car then the skin would be the shiny paint on the exterior of the car that makes it look pretty, sleek, stylish, fun, (enter desired adjective here) . . . When you hire Grassmeyer Design to create a custom skin think of us as highly artistic airbrush artists that will create for you something totally unique!

What a Skin is NOT:
Things you should know before ordering a Custom Skin.
The list below are items and services that are not included when you order a custom skin. If you need these types of services we may refer you to someone that is able to do what you require or if we are capable of doing them we will quote you a price to include them in your project.
1) As you would not expect your airbrush artist to diagnose that "funny sound" coming from under the hood, the same is true with skin design. The skin handles the way in which the content is displayed and not the content itself. It also doesn't handle the functioning side of CubeCart. Issues that are stemming from the core files need to be addressed by the wonderful people behind the software by opening a support ticket on the CubeCart website. If you don't have support credit, try asking in the forums, someone may help you out there or someone may have already discussed your very issue with steps on how to fix it.
2) While it is possible to hide or delete items from the front end of the cart by altering the skin, think painting over a car's headlights, it won't fully take these functioning parts out. There are also limits on what can and cannot be hidden by simply altering the skin.
3) Although your airbrush artist might be all-knowledgeable about the inter-workings of a car, you probably wouldn't expect him to sit down with you and teach you how to use and drive your car. But they may politely show you that your manual is in your glove box. Here is a list of sites that are very useful in learning how to "drive" your CubeCart: (these links will take you off-site and will open in a new window)
CubeCart Documentation
CubeCart Official Forums
CubeCart 3rd Party Forums
Old CubeCart UnOfficial Forums (achieve state)
While a few quick questions are okay, we would much rather spend our time designing and developing a unique skin for you!
4) Driving the car from the lot to our "shop" and prepare it for paint, in other words "installation." Our installation service includes: building a clean database for the cubecart software, uploading the cart files, and then running the installation "wizard." Basically we get it up and running for you, then give you your username and password. This service does not include configuring your settings inside of the admin area, creating categories, adding products, or creating site documents (pages). Using our car analogy, you wouldn't expect your airbrush artist to set your radio station dials or adjust your air-conditioner settings.
5) You: "I want this special lighted topper added to my antenna, can you install it for me?"
Us: "Sure we will install the topper for a small fee, but we can't be held responsible if it flies off while you are driving and cracks your windshield or if someone is so mesmerized by your flashy topper that it causes an accident."
If you don't know what we are referring to here, it is mods. There are many awesome mods available for CubeCart that greatly enhance the functionality of your cubecart. There are some mods which we have installed before and are willing to install, there are also some that we would rather the mod author install. While we are willing to install mods to your store, please keep in mind that we bear no responsibility for supporting this mod or what it may or may not do to your store. If you are uncomfortable with this policy, it is best your purchase your mods and installation straight from the mod authors. Be aware, however, most CubeCart mods employ these type of disclaimer statements:
"BACK UP your cube cart files . . . We are not responsible for any loss of data or any thing else for that matter. It is
your choice to add this mod to your cube cart and you do so at your own risk."
"The use of this software is at your own risk! The author is not liable for any direct nor indirect damages caused by the software!"
(We do backup before installing mods.)
6) You: "Wow that topper is really cool! But I wanted it to flash from red to green to blue, right now it's just red." As with cart installation, mod installation doesn't include configuring the mod from the back end. If you want this service and we are familiar with your mod we may charge an additional fee for us to adjust your mod just right, but typically we will not do this type of configuration.
7) "I liked the design while it was on paper but now I want that swirly swoop coming from the front fender instead of from the back. And I don't like those circles anymore, I think maybe hearts would be better . . . and I think we should add some glitter here . . . oh, and can we get rid of that panther-- this should only take an extra day, RIGHT?" As you can guess, making last minute changes like this can cause major problems for any airbrush artist when the paint has already been set and sealed, and these changes may take much more time and effort than you are aware of. This is why we have an added a step in the design process, a mock-up. A mock-up is an image to show you what the final skin will look like. We will ask for your approval on the mock-up design before we proceed with any coding to make the process as efficient as possible. Please make changes this during the mock-up stage, changes made later after your skin is already into coding development will be charged at a reasonable additional fee.
